Faster iPhone with 1GB of RAM seeded internally



With one iOS device update out of the way for 2012, Apple is working on updates to the iPhone and iPod touch. While these updates are expected, we’ve learned some details about this new iPhone and iPod touch.

First, the new iPhone. Much like they did last year, Apple has internally seeded a prototype next-generation iPhone with the iPhone 4 design. The actual next-generation iPhone is specifically said to not include the iPhone 4/4S design, but Apple is testing these new devices in older casings to throw off leaks. The purpose of the prototype iPhone that we heard about is to test a variation of the “A5X” chip in an iPhone. The A5X processor in the new iPad was specifically built to drive the new Retina Display, so that chip wouldn’t make much sense in an iPhone.

Instead, the iPhone prototypes that we’re talking about have a variation of the A5X’s S5L8945X architecture. Like the A5X-powered iPad, these new iPhone prototypes are packing 1GB of RAM. This prototype is labeled N96 internally, but we’re not sure if this internal codename will carry over to the actual next-generation iPhone. Again, this iPhone that we are describing is an internal-only unit built for testing the performance of a new chip in an iPhone, not an actual phone that Apple will produce.

The Rumored 4-Inch iPhone Might Become A Reality, But Not Like This



Today’s dose of gadget speculation comes from The Verge’s forums (via 9to5Mac), where user modilwar has crafted the following mock-up of the as-yet-unannounced iPhone’s potential 4-inch display:



The benefit to this solution is, of course, that Apple wouldn’t have to abandon its 326 PPI fabrication process in cramming a bigger screen into a similar (or perhaps even identical) form factor. Answering the question of just how Apple might achieve this, modilwar explains:

Change the aspect ratio. …[A]ll iPhones (and iPod touches) have had an aspect ratio of 3:2.
… For those of you who are good with numbers I’m sure you’ve noted that 1152 x 640 has an aspect ratio of 9:5 and the 1152 pixels is an increase of 192 from 960 and that’s 20% more than on the iPhone 4 and 4S.”
And so on.

It is, of course, nonsense.

Aside from an innate desire to avoid the inherent one-handed usability problems such an elongated screen presents, Apple is historically unwilling to alienate existing developers and apps by introducing the App Store to fundamental, far-reaching compatibility issues. The potential for fragmentation is overwhelming, and every non-updated iPhone app would be immediately rendered… poorly rendered. iDownloadBlog points out that

[t]here’s two ways Apple could handle this. One, would be to stretch the app’s UI across the screen — which would look terrible. Or two, it could letter-box the app in its natural 960 x 640 area, meaning you’d see black space on either side of it. It seems, however, that both of these solutions would create Android-like fragmentation problems.
There’s actually a third way, too: Apple could simply increase the iPhone’s screen size without changing its aspect ratio. Which is, you know, exactly what the company’s most likely to do. We already covered this eventuality at length, and — since the new iPad looks plenty pixel-dense at 264 PPI — it’s not out of the question that Apple could successfully reduce said specs without disrupting the iPhone’s Retina branding.

Personally, I’ve got no time for a display as tall and unwieldy as the one shown in the concept above. The top quarter of the touchscreen would be only slightly better than completely useless under most typical usage scenarios.

I don’t want to use both hands to open apps and search through contacts and check email and call my friends. And if I want to use two hands to browse the web or play games, I’ll simply use something else.

hmm sbnernya kalo Quad Core gt baterenya blom di benerin sih masalah jg , pasti borossss abis, kyq PS Vita tuh pake Quad core, boros sangat haha, 2G itu kan dulu ga ada 3G jg soalnya haha , gw pas pake jaman itu ga pake Edgenya malahan huahahaha

minggu kemarin sempet2 baca soal quad core di device itu katanya sih mubazir, karena rata2 di mobile device itu app yg bener2 bisa kepake (default full screen) kan cuma 1.

jadi kalo mikir2 ngapain jg pake core banyak2. dual core sepertinya udah lebih dari cukup sekarang ini.

untuk the next-gen iPhone, specnya gw gak ragu, yakin bgt gw pasti gokil. i4 atau mungkin i4s aja udah gokil banget. next gen pasti lebih gokil lagi.
yg gw gak sabar, gimana designnya nanti. bigger screen? apakah orang akan comfort dengan itu? apakah designnya bisa ngimbangin layarnya yg besar? kelihatan aneh gak yah 4" iPhone? atau mungkin malah jadi jauh lebih bagus designnya...
