Survey: Stellar iPhone sales help Apple beat Android in the United States



Apple announced monster sales of 37 million iPhones yesterday for the holiday quarter that spanned 14 weeks and ended Dec. 31, 2011. It’s a 128 percent unit increase and 133 percent revenue increase, annually, and enough to knock Samsung off the No. 1 spot it briefly held in the previous quarter. However, it appears that the popularity of the iPhone 4S also helped Apple thrive over Google’s platform, especially with Android backers such as Motorola Mobility, HTC and Sony Ericsson reporting disappointing results.

According to research firm Kantar Worldpanel ComTech (via Reuters), iPhone sales gave iPhone a lead over Android in smartphone sales in the United States. Specifically, Apple’s share of the U.S. market during October to November of last year when it doubled from 22.45 percent a year ago to 44.9 percent. Meanwhile Google’s Android smartphones dropped from 50 percent to 44.8 percent in the same period. Kantar’s global consumer insight director Dominic Sunnebo:

Apple has continued its strong sales run in the U.S., UK and Australia over the Christmas period. Overall, Apple sales are now growing at a faster rate than Android across the nine countries we cover.

Another way to look at iPhone numbers: The iPhone business generated $24.42 billion revenue. During the same quarter, all of Microsoft raked in $20.89 billion revenue. In fact, all of Apple’s holiday-quarter revenues and profits were two times higher than Microsoft’s.

Apple overtakes Samsung as largest smartphone maker



Apple floored the tech community when it announced on Tuesday that it sold 37 million iPhones in the last three months of 2011. This staggering figure was well over the 17 million it sold in Q3 2011 and may be high enough to make Apple the number one smartphone manufacturer in the world.

Apple climbed over its rival Samsung, which is expected to announce later this week that it sold 35 million handsets worldwide. Apple beat out Samsung because it had fantastic momentum going into the holiday quarter. There was pent up demand for the iPhone 4S which launched at the beginning of the quarter. Customers lined up for the phone and Tim Cook confirmed in the earnings call yesterday that demand exceeded inventory.

Samsung, however, had several models on the market, but none of its phones were on fire like the 4S. The Galaxy SII was older and on the down side of its sales. The flagship Galaxy Nexus also debuted overseas in the quarter, but it didn't garner the attention of the international crowd like the iPhone 4S. The Nexus also arrived in the US with Verizon, but it launched late in the quarter and its sales won't contribute heavily to Samsung's Q4 numbers.

lovin the XL package. look at the equal speed for each package. sayang tiap bonus talk time, sms, n sms nya di bagi 30 hari dan tidak bisa di akumulasi per harinya. jadi per hari untuk plan 1, cuma bisa nelpon gratis ke sesama XL selama 5 menit. seriously, kalo bisa di akumulasi at least selama 1 bulan, it'd be a freakin awesome package for me

Gw udah tanya ama simpati, katanya mereka gak ada bundling paket data
Jadi beli cuma dapet i4s, simcard sama garansi tsel

Emang dari segi ekonomis lebih murah XL, secara harga lebih mahal 400 tapi dapet free paket data, sms sama bicara 12 bulan

I dont know ya, tapi selama gw 5 taon pake apple, ga bisa di trace ulang kalo udah di restore , dan menurut gw kalo mau apply garansi di indo ke telkomsel langsung ato XL ?

Last kalo orang banyak tau kalo abis di jailbreak bisa di trace and void warranty, gw rasa hampir ga ada yg mau jb lagi
