REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CALIFORNIA - Kontroversi muncul saat Apple leuncurkan sistem operasi baru iOS 5 yang ditempelkan pada iPhone 4S. Di dalamnya, ada aplikasi baru berlabel "Find My Friends", layanan berbasis GPS yang membantu penggunanya menemukan orang-orang di sekelilingnya. Jika mereka setuju, Anda bisa menemukan lokasi mereka dalam peta di layar Anda.

Banyak yang terbantu dengan layanan ini. Tak sedikit, banyak pula yang privasinya mulai terganggu.

Dalam situs MacRumors.com, segala ungkapan terkait layanan "Find My Friends" bisa ditemukan. Di antaranya, ada seorang pria asal New York yang mengaku mengungkap perselingkuhan istrinya melalui iPhone 4S terbaru milik wanita yang belum lima tahun dinikahinya itu.

Pria itu mengisahkan, tanpa setahu sang istri, ia menginstal aplikasi itu.

Suatu hari, ia bertanya pada istrinya yang belum juga pulang ke rumah tentang posisinya saat itu. Sang istri menjawab, dia berada di sebuah perdesaan, berkunjung ke rumah teman wanitanya. Ia segera mengecek melalui "Find My Friends" dan menemukan, sang istri ternyata tidak berada di lokasi yang disebutnya, tapi di tempat lain.

Belakangan ketika dicek, ternyata sang istri tengah bersama pria lain hanya beberapa jengkal dari tempatnya tinggal. "Terima kasih Apple, kini kami tengah berbicara melalui pengacara kami masing-masing (untuk bercerai)," tulisnya.

Arnold Kim, direktur editorial MacRumors, menyatakan, thread 'pengungkapan perselingkuhan' menjadi thread tersibuk belakangan ini. Semoa orang yang ingin berkomentar dalam forum ini teregistrasi dan melalui proses validasi terlebih dulu.

Apple Working with iPhone 4S Owners to Address Battery Life Issues

Since the release of the iPhone 4S, some users have been complaining about poor battery life. Even with Apple having quietly reduced the standby battery life from 300 hours on the iPhone 4 to 200 hours on the iPhone 4S, active-use battery life for the iPhone 4S was supposed to remain the same or better than on the iPhone 4. But some users are indeed seeing rapid battery drains, both while in active use and in standby, suggesting that some sort of background task is sapping the device's battery under certain circumstances, according to The Guardian.



One user in particular noted a battery drain of 10% per hour even in standby mode. The user was able to replicate the issue with all features such as Siri and location services turned off, and even on a relatively clean phone with no apps installed, hinting that the battery drain was coming from a core functionality on the device. The user does report, however, that Apple has reached out in an attempt to research the issue, asking to install system monitoring software on the device to help figure out what is going wrong.
"I then got a call from a senior [Apple] engineer who said he had read my post and was 'reaching out' to users for data and admitted this was an issue (and that they aren't close to finding a fix!) and asked lots of questions about my usage and then asked if he could install the file below and that he would call back the day after to retrieve the info. I extracted the file from my Mac after a sync and emailed it to him. He was incredibly helpful and apologetic in the typical Apple way!"

Apple has yet to offer an explanation for the battery life issue, but anecdotal reports suggest that corrupted contacts may be responsible. Some users have reported that a backup and restore through iTunes can help, but until Apple offers an official solution those affected by the issue may need to experiment with various solutions.

Akhir Tahun iPhone 4S Masuk ke Indonesia?

JAKARTA - iPhone 4S yang merupakan versi terbaru dari iPhone, kabarnya ponsel cerdas Apple akan masuk ke Indonesia pada akhir tahun ini.

iPhone 4S selain memiliki keunggulan Siri atau aplikasi suara seperti 'asisten pribadi' juga diklaim memiliki banyak keunggulan lainnya seperti kamera 8MP dan video dengan 1080p pada 30fps. Selain itu iPhone 4S ini akan hadir dengan chip dual core A5 dengan kekuatan mencapai 1GHz.

Smartphone teranyar dari Apple ini memang sudah mulai diperjual belikan di beberapa negara Amerika Serikat (AS), Eropa dan Asia. Khusus untuk Asia baru Australia dan Singapore yang sudah mulai memperjual belikan iPhone 4S.

"Perjalanan semua perangkat baru Apple memang bermula dari pasar AS, kemudian ke Eropa dan Asia, terakhir baru masuk ke negara Asean," ungkap Mahendra Dwi Hatmoko, Apple Certified Support Professional Apple iPhone Trainer, di JCC, Jakarta, Jumat (4/11/2011).

"Sebenarnya kami belum tahu kapan iPhone 4S masuk ke pasar Indonesia, namun paling cepat mungkin akhir tahun ini," lanjutnya.

Meskipun belum secara resmi dikatakan oleh Apple, namun jika informasi yang diberikan perwakilan iBox benar, maka pecinta iPhone di Indonesia mungkin bisa memiliki iPhone 4S di akhir tahun ini. (tyo)

Source Claims Hands-On Experience with iPhone 5 Prototype

While the redesigned "iPhone 5" form factor failed to surface with last month's update that saw the introduction of the iPhone 4S, reports have suggested that the next-generation iPhone expected to debut next year will indeed carry a significant redesign.




Business Insider now reports that it has received word from a source who has claimed to have had access to an iPhone 5 prototype and offered some details on the device.According to the source, Apple did indeed hope to launch the iPhone 5 this year, but was forced to scrap those plans several months before the iPhone 4S was ultimately introduced.  Among the iPhone 5 details cited by the source:

- 4-inch screen
- Aluminum back
- Capacitive home button
- "Flatter" form factor
- Much faster than current hardware, but poor battery life
- 10-megapixel rear camera
- Siri prototype known as "Assistant", which had been the rumored name for the feature until its introduction

According to the source, the primary objection regarding the prototype design came from Steve Jobs, who claimed that the larger screen would result in fragmentation of the iOS ecosystem, something the company has worked hard to limit.

Business Insider does not have a particularly solid track record on Apple product rumors, and is also including its own warnings about taking the report with a grain of salt.  But the claims are certainly of some interest given the curiosity surrounding what happened with the claimed leaked design that resulted in significant numbers of cases being produced for a device that failed to appear.
